What is SkinPen®?

SkinPen® by Bellus Medical is the first microneedling device to be cleared by the FDA to safely and effectively reduce the appearance of facial acne scars for patients ages 22 and up. This treatment can also be used to improve and soften the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and, texture of the skin and stretch marks.

So how does microneedling work exactly?

The Skinpen® creates controlled micro-injuries to stimulate the body’s natural wound healing process, while minimizing cellular damage. The result is effective remodeling of the scar tissue, keeping the overall structure of the skin intact. This helps to achieve smoother and firmer looking skin. Unlike most alternatives, the SkinPen® is effective for both men and women and works for all skin types and can be done all year round.

About the Treatment

The treatment involves little downtime and many patients return to work the next day. Your SkinPen® treatment provider will apply a topical numbing agent to the treatment area. Most procedures take about 30 minutes after numbing, depending on the area treated and the desired results. Results can be seen in as few as three treatments to five treatments spaced four weeks apart. After a SkinPen® procedure, the skin will appear slightly pink to red, similar to a sunburn. Afterwards, the most common responses to the treatment may include any of the following: dryness, rough skin, tightness, redness, itching, peeling, discomfort, tenderness and burning. These side effects resolve over time without any further complications.

How can I learn more about SkinPen®?

There is an initial consultation and evaluation that is required for this treatment. Please call us at any of our Cosmetic Centers to schedule your initial, complimentary consultation.
